Repair or replace?
Is it worth fixing, or time for a new system?
Five quick questions, an honest read on which way the numbers lean, and every reason behind it. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How it works
The rules of thumb behind the guide
- 01
Age against lifespan
Air conditioners typically last 12–15 years in Oklahoma heat, heat pumps 10–15 and gas furnaces 15–20. Past that, each repair buys less time.
- 02
The $5,000 rule
Multiply the age in years by the repair cost. Over $5,000, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing.
- 03
Share of a new system
If a repair costs half the price of a new system or more, the money is often better spent on the new one.
